Steelmaking

A.C.P. S.r.l. is a leader in the production of steel ingots and billets for the forging and the ring rolling industries. Typical materials produced are Engineering Carbon, Alloy and Stainless Steel in a variety of grades studied together with our Customers to obtain the best performance in every application. The actual steelplant is located on a industrial area of 332,000 m², 25,000 m² are covered on 70,000 m² authorized, and steelmaking is realized by the electric arc furnace process using scrap metal as raw material.

The scrap-yard is a covered department of 35,000 cubic meters and 12 sectors are available to manage the best selection and segregation of the main macro-classes of carbon and alloy scraps. The right scrap mix to obtain the chemical target of the metal matrix is calculated and sent to the workers who prepare the buckets by cranes equipped with magnet or valve and unload the content into the electric furnace (EAF) for melting.

After the deslagging and the chemical analysis, the molten steel is tapped into the ladle and deoxidated. Then is refined in ladle furnace (LF1 or LF2) and degassed in the vacuum degasser (VD). For stainless steel production with low content of carbon (<0,06%), the degassing station allows the decarburation thanks to the oxygen injection by a lance (VOD). For superclean steels and when the requirements for microcleanliness are very strict, manual deslagging before ladle refining is applied.

Finally the liquid steel is bottom poured to make forging ingots or casted in the continuous casting machine to produce billets for forging or rolling.
